San Fran-tastic
San Francisco, California

June 7, 2008

The next time we head to San Francisco, we’ll make sure to “wear some flowers in our hair” (don’t try and pretend you’re not humming that song right now). But we’ll be doing much more than that, too—thanks to our recent discovery of the coolest hotels, boutiques and dining spots the city has to offer.

Where to Sleep:
Personality Hotels has 7 city properties, and the Hotel Union Square and Hotel Diva are the downtown treasures of the bunch (from US$169).

Where to Eat:
Start your day at Sear’s Fine Foods, the historic diner renowned for its mini pancakes (18 for US$8.25). Then, make your way to Ideale Restaurante in North Beach (a.k.a. Little Italy) for authentic Italian. A good vacation = an extra five pounds, yes?

Where to Shop:
A short cable car ride and walk to the Marina district will uncover plenty of gems. Our pick: Two Skirts, where owner Amanda Corzine makes it easy to spend a few green ones.
